1. Background
The Korea Transport Institute (KOTI) and the International Transport Forum (ITF) have convened annual seminars to discuss key global transport issues and share research outcomes. This year’s seminar, under the theme “Urban Mobility Innovation through Emerging Technology”, aims to explore new technologies and policy directions to address urban transport challenges and advance the transition toward future mobility.
2. Seminar Overview
- Date & Time: September 11, 2025 (Thu), 14:00–17:00
* Dinner will be provided for participants after the seminar*
- Venue: HJBC Gwanghwamun Building, 13F (149 Sejong-daero, Seoul)
- Theme: “Urban Mobility Innovation through Emerging Technology”
3. Purpose
In this seminar, discussions will cover the transformative impact and socio-economic ripple effects of the Great Train Express (GTX), introduced to alleviate traffic congestion in the Seoul metropolitan area. Additional topics include strategies for the efficient development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure and AI-driven approaches to transport operations. These discussions go beyond mere technological advancement, carrying significant implications for improving citizens’ daily lives and overall quality of life.
The seminar seeks not only to share cases of transport innovation but also to propose concrete solutions for building sustainable transport systems, responding to climate change, and realizing AI-based smart mobility cities. Through this, it will serve as a platform for cooperation in envisioning better urban mobility and shaping a new paradigm for the future of transport.
4. Participants
- Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport
- International Transport Forum
- Korea Transport Institute
5. Program Schedule
The seminar consists of four sessions focusing on urban mobility innovation through emerging technology:
o Urban Mobility & Advanced Transit Systems
Discusses the impacts of introducing advanced systems such as the GTX on citizens’ daily lives and urban mobility.
o Socioeconomic Impacts of GTX
Explores the broader social and economic effects of GTX introduction and its implications for metropolitan transport.
o AI for Urban Mobility & EV Infrastructure
Demonstrates how artificial intelligence can be applied to optimize urban transport operations, particularly in planning EV charging stations.
o Demand-based EV Charging Infrastructure
Presents methodologies for estimating and implementing public EV charging networks based on actual usage demand.
