Awarded Excellent Institute for 3 Consecutive Years in 2020 Research Institute Evaluation
The Korea Transport Institute won the Excellent Institute at the 'Award Ceremony in the 2020 Research Institute Evaluation' held in the auditorium on the 1st floor of Research Support Building of the Sejong National Research Complex on Monday, May 17th. It was honored to be selected as an Excellent Institute for three consecutive years (2018-2020) in the research institute evaluation conducted for 26 national research institutes hosted annually by the Economics, Humanities and Social Research Council. President Oh Jaehak said, "We will make further efforts in research to improve people's safe mobility and on research for future mobility."
Seminar on Job Change and Policy Response in the Transportation and Logistics Industry in the Coronavirus Era
The Korea Transport Institute and the Korean Society of Transportation co-hosted the 'Seminar on Job Change and Policy Response in the Transportation and Logistics Industry in the Coronavirus Era' at the conference room of the Korean Society of Transportation on Friday, May 14th with the support of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. This discussion was broadcast live on YouTube of the Korean Society of Transportation, and officials such as Oh Jaehak, President of the Korea Transport Institute, Lee Seonha, President of the Korean Society of Transportation, and Hwang Sungkyu, Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, attended and gave a brief speech.
Afterwards, Hwang Soonyeon, Associate Research Fellow, Lee Jiseon, Head of Division for Logistics Market and Industrial Innovation, and Im Seohyun, Head of Division for Transport Industry and Mobility of the Korea Transport Institute, gave presentations, and experts from academia and the public and private sectors such as Oh Gyetaek (Director of the Korea Labor Institute), Jo Gyuseok (Vice President of the Research Institute of Transportation Industries), Park Soonho (President of PLG Co., Ltd.), Kim Juyoung (Director of the Korea Transport Institute), Kim Gichan (Reporter of JoongAng Ilbo), Lee Jinseok (Director of the Statistics Office), and Park Jihong (Director of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport), participated as panelists and had time to diagnose the impact and problems on jobs in the transportation and logistics industry due to COVID-19, and to find policy directions to overcome damage and to improve.
Korea Transport Institute and National Fire Research Institute of Korea Signed a Business Agreement
The Korea Transport Institute signed a business agreement with the National Fire Research Institute of Korea (President Lee Changseop) on Monday, May 24th. Through the business agreement, the two institutes promised to cooperate faithfully with mutual respect and trust for the purpose of research to secure golden time at disaster sites, exchange of latest technology and information related to transportation policy and technology, sharing research results and promoting joint research results, and contributing to mutual development by establishing an organic cooperative system between the two institutes.
Held a Public Hearing on the 5th National Logistics Master Plan 2021-2030
'A Public Hearing on the 5th National Logistics Master Plan 2021-2030' was held in the conference room on the 2nd floor on Friday, May 28th, co-sponsored by the Korea Transport Institute and the Korea Maritime Institute, and co-hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. The public hearing was held online live on YouTube in order to comply with social distancing guidelines. Starting with brief speeches by Oh Jaehak, President of the Korea Transport Institute and Jang Youngtae, President of the Korea Maritime Institute, and a congratulatory speech by Park Mooik, Director General of the Transport and Logistics Office, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, officials in firms, university, research institutes, and government who participated as panelists had time to actively exchange opinions on the research results, diagnose problems, and find policy directions.

A study on Traffic Plan Criteria for New Towns in the New Normal Era
- Purpose

- To propose new urban traffic plan criteria that support people-centered, environ mentally friendly and new types of urban (economic) activities
- To respond to changes and innovative measures in the spatial structure and land use plans of new towns
- To discover new standards for plan criteria for each transportation sector, such as roads, public transportation, parking, walking and bicycles, new mode of transpor tation, and mobility services

- Review of traffic plan status of new towns and problems with the traffic system of existing new towns
- Review of related systems for the new town traffic plan
- Review of domestic and foreign cases related to the new town traffic system and plan criteria
- Setting of goals and core values of the new town traffic system in line with the new normal era

- Case Study: Comparative analysis of traffic plans when new plan criteria are applied
Policy Research Reports
Improving private highways toll collecting systemby e-notification and easy mobile payments
It has been steadily increasing for years unpaid tolls of private highways in Korea. It's because that private highway companies have no authority to collect unpaid tolls from the debtor without judical decision. As a result, CEPHIS(Center for Private Highway Studies) was entrusted by the MOLIT under the from 17th Jan. 2019. In this study, Research team designed the system for collecting unpaid tolls of private highways focusing on three aspects below.
First of all, e-notification claim messages based on smartphone should replace the expensive and slow registered mail of post office. Secondly, easy mobile payment solutions should be offered for the unpaid tolls debtor. Thirdly, toll collecting system should be linked in real time with NICE credit information company, KOSTA(Korea Transportaion Safety Authority), and other 6 agenicies. It is expect that the new toll collecting system of CEPHIS could increase the rate of toll collection and user convenience, while, decrease the required time for delivery and postage costs of billing.
