Korea's think tank for transport and logistics

President of The Korea Transport Institute KIM GyengChul, ph.D.

Greetings! I am GyengChul KIM, the 12th President of the Korea Transport Institute (KOTI). KOTI is Korea¡¯s premier think tank committed to the development of national transportation policies and worldwide knowledge sharing.

Let me begin by sharing KOTI¡¯s mission and vision.

Our nation is confronted with many challenges today. Drastic climate change and natural disasters threaten the environment, while fiscal crises in Europe and the competition for limited natural resources present additional burdens for our own economy. Our government has placed at the top of its priorities policies that jointly promote ¡°humanism and creativity¡± as well as a ¡°fair and just society.¡±

Transportation research is responding to these domestic and foreign changes by developing national transportation policies outlining a new paradigm. We are striving to develop policies that create a socially integrated public transportation system that is human-centered and better suited for the transportation vulnerable.

In order to fulfill these needs, we must invest in and further promote research on green transportation that sustains ecological growth, and green technology. This pertains to all areas of transport, including roads, rail, logistics, aviation, and shipping. Under my leadership, KOTI will continue to be an innovative research institute that pioneers green transportation research both in Korea and overseas. The idea of fusions evolving to create metafusions, as stated in Convergenomics, extends even to the field of transport.

Established first in 1985, KOTI has been in existence for over twenty-five years and is relatively young. Like an adolescent, KOTI is solidifying its foundations, all the while dreaming up monumental plans for the future. While KOTI is simultaneously exploring new realms and expanding its breadth, it is at a critical point, at which the tenacity of youth is much needed. I foresee KOTI further maturing as researchers continue to conduct research with passion and dedication. With the help of all of our client citizens, we promise to make our nation¡¯s period of prosperity, one marked by an indomitable spirit, ingenuity, sustainability, and advanced transportation system, a reality.

We at KOTI pledge to produce national transportation policy that places Korea at the forefront of global transportation systems. Furthermore, we promise to further strengthen KOTI as a world-class research institute that fuses sustainable transportation policy with technology.

We request your support in shaping KOTI as an even more ¡°open KOTI¡± and a more ¡°communicative KOTI.¡± Thank you.
